Islam is derived from the Arabic root “Salema”: peace, purity, submission and obedience. In the religious sense, Islam means submission to the will of God and obedience to His law. People who submit to the will of God are called Muslims.

“This day have I perfected for you your religion and completed My favor to you and chosen for you Islam as a religion.”
(Al-Qur’an 5:3)

“And the same did Abraham enjoin on his sons and so did Jacob: O my sons, Allah has chosen the religion for you, so die not unless you are Muslims”
(Al-Qur’an 2:132)

“He named you Muslims before and in this”
(Al-Qur’an 22:78)
